Demi Lovato: making music on the road to recovery
It was a big weekend for Demi Lovato, as she sang the
American national anthem at the Superbowl. The show
came shortly after she sang at the Grammy Awards, her
first public performance after she was admitted to hospital
in 2018 for an overdose.
Speaking about how she was feeling at the time, Lovato
said she hadn’t been able to accept the situation she
found herself in mentally and added, “I wish I could go
back in time and help that version of myself.”
The singer, who took on the lead role in Disney’s Camp
Rock, now feels much more able to talk about the
problems she was facing at the time and sees her music as
therapy. However, she added that music could only do so
much, highlighting the need for people to get outside help.
Talking through her issues with professionals, meditating
and taking a break from social media have all helped
Lovato on the road to recovery, as well as surrounding
herself with a supportive team of friends and family.
When asked what the future holds, she said, “I would love
to start doing more things that make me happy and worry
less about success.”
