Does Instagram have a negative effect on our self-image?

There are many in uencers on social media nowadays, and it’s easy to become famous for different
reasons. Some people post make-up tutorials or fitness videos, while other people post positive
messages and share their negative experiences to support people in similar situations.
On the one hand, it’s easy to see why people say sites such as Instagram are responsible for promoting
negative self-image. Many people believe that Instagram only offers a snapshot of life, and that
people will only post the positive. Furthermore, with the filters you can use when posting an image, it
isn’t difficult to make everything look great.
However, each individual is responsible for choosing who to follow on the app. While one person may
choose to follow lots of glamorous celebrities or fashion labels, another person might follow people
who are more authentic, and show both the good and the bad in a balanced way.
In conclusion, while I agree social media can affect our self-image in both a positive and negative
way, I disagree that any site which an individual chooses to use is responsible for how we see ourselves.
