Cybercrime is one of the biggest problems of the 21
century. This is partly because cybercriminals, especially
hackers, use highly sophisticated programmes to carry
out their crimes, and because the crimes can often
happen on an international level, taking many forms,
and affecting different members and groups of society.
It’s all about the money
Some cybercriminals are a kind of online burglar –
they enter into people’s bank accounts and steal their
money, moving it into hidden accounts. When people
use their credit card to pay online, there’s also a danger
of cybercriminals stealing their information and using
it to buy other products. Although many websites and
banks provide protection against this kind of problem, it
still happens quite frequently.
Another way cybercriminals can steal people’s money
online is by “selling” products which the customer never
receives. In fact, it’s relatively easy to set up a website
and post fake reviews of your “products”, using photos of
the items on the web. Cybercriminals will often advertise
expensive tech, such as smartphones and games
consoles, at a much better price than they’re sold on the high
street. If you maintain regular contact with your customers, 1. Cybercriminals are difficult to catch
