How do you think the world’s governments would react if they discovered the sun was expanding and would
soon envelop the Earth? In Liu lang di qiu, or The Wandering Earth as it’s otherwise known, they decide to attach
massive rockets to the Earth in order to move it out of our solar system. How’s that for a feat of engineering?

However, aside from some questionable science throughout the film, it truly was a pleasure to watch. The visual
effects are absolutely stunning: from the impressive scenes of the Earth moving through space to the images of
the frozen skyscrapers of some of the world’s major cities. The main characters are quite likeable, too, and the
film manages to add a touch of comedy with the help of Mike Kai Sui as the scared Australian-Chinese, as well as
both angry and tender family moments between the character of Liu Qi and his father.
Sci-fi fans looking for a big-budget action film won’t be disappointed, and if you’re after something easy to
watch, The Wandering Earth will keep you engaged to the very end.
