Saving the environment at home
Introduction
The aim of this report is to look at people’s responses to a number of ideas put forward to help save the
environment. The suggestions were steps which people could take in their own houses and flats.
Becoming a vegan
This was by far the least popular suggestion, and most people felt that it would require too much effort
to be sustainable. However, many people said they would be happy to reduce their meat and dairy
consumption, particularly if there was a programme set up where people could exchange vegan recipe
ideas.
Cutting out plastic
Most people felt that this was also not a feasible idea at present, but again said that they would make
a conscientious effort to reduce the amount of plastic they used and threw away. They suggested that
putting schemes in place to encourage more people to recycle, such as offering money back for returning
plastic bottles, would be beneficial.
Not using the lift
Everyone agreed that it was important to reduce the amount of electricity which we use and so thought
that taking the stairs was one way to save energy. They added that it would also have a positive effect on
their health.
Conclusion
Talking to people, it seems that sustainable adaptations to their daily routine were more popular than
drastic changes, and that people are willing to take small steps in order to be more environmentally-
friendly.
