E. Work with a partner. Read the role cards and Conversation 1 – Student A
act out each conversation. Use the phrases
in exercise D to respond. You want to go to the cinema this weekend, but
your friend keeps making excuses.
Respond to each of his excuses appropriately
and try to convince your friend to come.

Conversation 1 – Student B

Your friend wants to go the cinema this weekend.
You don’t have enough money, but don’t want to
tell your friend the truth.
Keep giving excuses as to why you can’t go to
the cinema.

Conversation 2 – Student B

Your friend is feeling down in the dumps because
he’s having a string of bad luck.
Respond to each incident appropriately and
offer some comforting advice.

Conversation 2 – Student A

Nothing seems to be going your way recently!
Tell your partner about all the bad luck you’ve
been having.
