Art | Shooting a short film
A. Discuss the questions in pairs or groups.
1. Do you ever make videos and share them with friends?
2. What difficulties do you have when shooting videos?
B. Read the script for a gangster film
1. What crime is being shown here?
2. How would you describe the character of Louie?
3. How would you describe the character of Cara?
4. What do you think will happen next?
Louie Nice little shop you’ve got here.
Cara Thanks, I’ve just taken on ownership of it. My first
business, it’s always been my dream, you know, a little
flower shop, all of my own!
Louie You must be very proud. I hope everything goes well
for you.
Cara Thank you.
Louie It’s a tough neighbourhood you’ve opened in. Kids,
crime, vandals, you know.
Cara Oh, I don’t think so. You get a few kids hanging about,
but I don’t think they do any real harm.
Louie Oh, I don’t know about that. There’s a lot that goes on
that you might not know about.
Cara Really? I was talking to Janice in the sweet shop…
Louie But some of my guys, we offer this service, you know?
Cara Oh, you’re in business round here yourself?
Louie Something like that. You see, we offer a security
service. You pay for our services, and we make sure
that nothing bad happens to your flower shop – no
windows get broken in the night, no stock gets stolen
and damaged, that sort of thing.
Cara Well, I have cameras fitted…
Louie They could get damaged, too. And then, you’d
have to go through all the police, the insurance, the
lawsuits, all that loss of hours and business, your time,
your stress, and then once you’ve just got everything
up and running again, then the same thing happens
again. It’s very stressful for you. You wouldn’t want
that happening when you’ve just started out your
business, your dream come true. You don’t want it
becoming a nightmare.
Cara No. Are you saying…
Louie Just £80 a month. That’s a small price to pay for your
peace of mind, isn’t it?
