3 Home Sweet Home
Around the world, there are lots
of famous, small houses. Some
houses are modern, and some
are old. Some look cute, and
some look strange! People built
them for different reasons. Let’s
take a look at some of these tiny
houses!
1. The smallest house in Britain is called the Quay House.
This little red, stone house is about 500 years old
and is 3 metres x 1.8 metres in size. On the ground
floor, there is a living room with a fireplace, and tap
for water under the stairs. Upstairs, there is a tiny
bedroom. It was a house until 1900, and its last tenant
was a tall man who couldn’t stand up in it! Now it is
a tiny museum.
2. The narrowest house in the world is the Keret House,
in Poland. This modern home fits in a small space
between two large buildings. At its narrowest point,
it is just 92 centimetres wide, and is 152 centimetres
wide at its widest point. It has two floors. Downstairs,
there is a dining area, a bathroom and a tiny kitchen.
The fridge is so small it can only hold two drinks! Up a
ladder, there is a bedroom with a desk.
3. The Drina River House isn’t the smallest house in
the world, but it is possibly the most beautiful small
house! The wooden house is 45 years old, and it sits
on a rock in the middle of a river. The single floor
cabin has just one room and is now a holiday home.
4. Canadian James Stuart builds Cube Homes,
3 metres tall and 3 metres wide. The homes have
two floors, and inside there is a living area, a desk,
a kitchen and a bathroom. In the kitchen, there is a
washing machine and a dishwasher. James hopes
his simple, tiny homes will help homeless people.
