Tales from the other side of the ocean
This month, we have a series of guest posts from Leandro, from Argentina. He’s spending six months
in France, studying the language.
France was always top of the list of countries I wanted to visit, and when I finished high school last
year, I decided to take a gap year and travel to Europe.
When I first arrived in France, I couldn’t speak the language at all, but luckily, on the second night,
I met a Mexican guy. He spoke way better French than I did as he’d been living there for a couple
of years. It was great to meet someone who knew the area, and I’ll admit, I didn’t mind speaking to
him in Spanish whilst I found my feet!
But I’d come to learn French, and I was really happy when I got to the language school and saw
I was the only Spanish speaker in my group. It’s awesome to have classes with students from all over
the world – hearing people talk about their culture is always really interesting, even with our extremely
limited French!
Have you spent time with people from other countries? What’s the most interesting thing you’ve
learnt from them?
