B. Complete the dialogue with a modal verb in the positive or negative form. Sometimes more than one
modal verb is possible.
Carrie Did you see that video that Mark has been sending everyone? It’s really racist!
Mark Yes, he showed it to me yesterday. He thought it was funny, but I didn’t like it.
Carrie Did you tell him that?
Mark No, I didn’t.
Carrie You 1 have! Now he’s sent it to everyone! By tomorrow, everyone in class
2 have seen it!
Mark He 3 realised that it’s offensive.
Carrie Don’t be silly! He 4 have realised! He’s not an idiot!
Mark I think he just finds videos like that funny.
Carrie Well, they aren’t. You know Miranda? You know how she’s a bit fat? Well, a few months
ago, Amy sent round a video making fun of fat people doing sports. You 5
have seen it.
Mark Yes, I did. It was kind of funny.
Carrie Well, Miranda got really upset. She wouldn’t take part in sports after that. Thankfully,
a few of us supported her. It 6 have been a lot worse. She 7 have
harmed herself or something.
Mark It’s a good job she didn’t. I like Miranda. And I’m sure Amy 8 have shared it if
she’d known that it would make Miranda upset.
Carrie Even so, she 9 have done it. It wasn’t kind. She 10 have thought
about how the video would make people feel. The same goes for Mark.
Mark Maybe I could tell him to take the post down or write an apology on his social media
feed.
Carrie That’s a good idea, and the sooner, the better. Why don’t you talk to him now? He
