Rumour Has It!
Carl was a really old man who lived in an old house in front of the
school. All the schoolchildren were scared of Carl because they thought
that he was crazy, and they had all heard rumours that he ate young
children. One day, the children were leaving school as usual, and one of
them was throwing the ball to another when the ball landed in Carl’s
backyard. All the children told the ball’s owner to forget it and leave it
there, but he insisted on going in. The boy went into the backyard and
found Carl holding the ball and looking at him. The boy expected Carl
to scold him; however, he was not angry as the boy expected, but he
was smiling and gave the boy his ball, as well as a treat!
