Dear Parents,
As a part of our social studies program, your child is learning about
needs and wants. In class, we learned ways that children can think
about what they truly need and what they want.
Here are some things you can do to support the message of this lesson
and our related learning activities.
• Give your child a choice between two options. This helps him/her
learn to make decisions. Encourage your child to give reasons for
his/her choices.
• When your child asks for something from the store, ask him/her if
it is a need or a want. Ask him/her to explain his/her answer.
Listen with interest to your child’s explanation.
• Give your child a small role in family decisions, for example, when
planning activities or deciding on household jobs. This helps
children learn how to make decisions that take others into
account.
Thank you for being our partner in education!
Research has shown that children with involved parents score
better than others whose parents don't have a role in their
education process. Help your child stay brilliant!
