In the late 18  and early 19  century,

            the construction of canals was being

            considered to improve inland transportation

            in North America. One of the important canal

            systems built at that time was the Erie Canal,

            which was built in 1825. The future of trade

            and transportation never looked brighter;

            people had less travel time and merchants

            were able to transport their goods across


            di erent areas.

                    An invention that has di erently

            in uenced us today is the telegraph, by

            Samuel Morse. The telegraph revolutionized

            long-distance communication. It was a

            turning point in communication in 1844;

            rather than waiting for weeks and even


            months to receive or send letters, people

            received and sent messages instantly.
