Zero conditionals
We use zero conditionals to talk about what usually happens in certain situations.
We really expect these things to happen. For example, we use them to describe general truths,
scientific facts, or the rules of a game space.
We can also use when instead of if in zero conditionals.
When you leave ice in the sun, it melts.
When you throw a bar of iron into the water, it sinks.
In the zero conditional, both clauses are in the present simple tense.
If/When Clause Main Clause
If/when + the simple present tense The present simple
If you wash wool in hot water, it shrinks.
When it rains, the ground gets wet.
First conditionals
We use first conditionals to talk about possible future events. We use the simple present in the if
clause and will in the main clause.
If Clause Main Clause
If + the simple present tense The simple future (will)
If you get up early, you will catch the bus.
If my father gets angry, he will shout.
Note: We can use be going to, can, may, or might instead of will.
If you are hungry, you can eat a sandwich.
I may go out if I finish my homework early.
I am going to watch the game if I find a ticket.
A. Fill in the blanks with if or when.
Example:
The baby looks very cute when he smiles because he’s got two teeth missing.

will see people playing golf.
8. People always use trolleys at the supermarket they do a lot of shopping there.
9. you are interested in fantastic scenery and wildlife, you must try a safari holiday in Kenya.
10. I always get nervous the plane takes off and lands.
