Passive voice (modals)
In the passive voice, the grammatical subject is the receiver of the action.
Active voice: The students can answer these questions easily.
Passive voice: These questions can be answered easily by the students.
We use the modal verb, be and the third form of the verb (V3) with “by agent” if necessary.
can/may/might/should/ought to/have to/has to/must + be + V3 + (by agent)
We use passive voice with modals when we want to be less personal and put emphasis on the
action.
