Can you imagine how annoying it must have been
in the past to pay for something? You couldn’t just
open your wallet and take out a note. Instead, until
this invention was used in China in the 9 century,

you had to trade products with other people –
meaning you had to have something of value
which the other person wanted.
Producing books before the mid-fifteenth century
was awkward and time-consuming. Each book
E had to be handwritten, meaning that the variety
and number of books available was limited. After
the invention of this German machine by Johannes
Gutenberg, 3,600 pages could be printed in a day.

Although nowadays some parents don’t believe
in taking their children to the doctor’s for shots,
F this invention has saved millions of lives around
the world. First used in China around 1000 CE,
more research was done from 1796, when a British
doctor, Edward Jenner, created a shot against
smallpox.

There’s some disagreement about who actually

discovered this, but it’s thought that the first
experiments took place in the eighteenth century.
Even then, if you had run out of candles at home,
you were in trouble until 1860 when the first light
bulb was invented.
