                  Past simple vs present perfect

















                 A. Complete the text with the correct form of the verb in brackets.

                 I 1               (go) to Paris twice: once when I 2           (be) at school and then again at
                 university. In fact, I 3         (live) there for a year. But that was years ago, and I 4
                 (not go) back since then. When I 5             (finish) uni, I 6          (come) to Spain, with
                 the idea of staying here for a couple of years. I 7        (live) here for over
                 15 years now, but I 8             (also think) of perhaps moving to Japan in the future.



                 B.  Write full sentences to answer these questions.

                   1. Have you ever been to a zoo? What animals did you see?
                   2. Have you ever eaten something very spicy? Where were you?
                   3. Have you ever been camping? Did you enjoy the experience?
                   4. Have you ever flown anywhere? Were you scared?
                   5. Have you ever broken a bone? How did it happen?
                   6. Have you ever had a bad experience on holiday? What happened?


                 C.  Write three more Have you ever...? questions to ask a partner and two follow-up questions for each
                   with the past simple.


                 D.  Complete the sentences with an appropriate verb. What do you think is the situation for each
                   sentence?
                   1. I’ve been                really tired recently. I think I need to start going to bed earlier.
                   2. You’ve been                computer games for hours. You need to go outside and get some air.

                   3. We’ve been                 here for ages. The bus was supposed to be here 30 minutes ago.
