My parents were never particularly keen on spending days
at the beach, especially my mum, who finds hot weather
unbearable. Also, neither of them enjoy being in crowded
places and as we lived on the coast, the beaches were
always busy in summer.
However, we would sometimes go to the beach in the
evening, when most of the tourists had gone home, and the
temperatures were a little cooler. This was the perfect time to
enjoy the refreshing water, as the waves were calmer then,
and the sea wasn’t full of loud children with huge surfboards
and inflatable crocodiles.
After a relaxing dip in the ocean, we would then dry off and
head back to our old car, brushing the rough sand from our
feet before we got in. As it was getting late, we’d then stop off
for a delicious slice of pizza on the way home. I’d always have
Hawaiian, and I know people think it’s crazy to put pineapple
on a pizza, but it always tasted so exotic to me after an
evening at the beach.
