8 Taking a Course

Kacey: Argh – parents are so annoying!
           Dario: What’s up?
           Anya: Wanna chat?

Kacey: They’re just on at me because I’m falling behind in history and
I have to resit the exam we did last week. Such a pain – my mum’s
grounded me, so I can’t go to the beach this weekend with you guys.

           Dario: That sucks.
Kacey: Yeah, my mum was all like, “If you don’t get your act together, next thing
you’ll be dropping out of school and never get ahead in life. ”

Anya: Totally overreacting! My parents are always on at me: “Why can’t you be more
like your sister?” Just ‘cos she picks things up really easily, doesn’t mean we all do!

Dario: Yeah, but your sister’s a total teacher’s pet!

Anya: Absolutely! I’m sure she’s just like standing at the teacher’s desk before
the bell rings waiting to hand in her homework. Ha-ha-ha!

Kacey: Speaking of homework, have you guys finished the project for science yet?
Dario: Nah, I’m just reading up on Nikola Tesla, and then I’m gonna
put it all together over the weekend.

Anya: I’ve finished the project, but I haven’t learnt my presentation by heart –
I’m just gonna make a few notes and use my slides to help me remember.
Kacey: Blimey – I’ve barely even started mine yet! Who are you doing, @Anya?

Anya: Katie Bouman and her work on the black hole photography team. You?

Kacey: I was thinking maybe Lise Meitner, an Austrian physicist.
She’s got an element named after her, which is pretty cool! If I
discovered a new element, I’ d definitely call it kacelium.
           Dario: LOL.

Kacey: Yeah, but other than finding out her name and about the
element, I haven’t made any progress on the assignment. But, as I’m
grounded, I’ll have plenty of time to work over the weekend.

Anya: And there’ll be plenty of time to go to
the beach when we break up, not long now!
Dario: I can’t wait for the summer though my dad wants
me to get a summer job so I can start saving for uni.
Anya: Ask Julio – he’s been working as a lifeguard the last couple
of summers. In that hotel that’s near the shopping centre.

Dario: Good idea, thanks for the tip!
Kacey: Right guys, I better head off and crack on with this history revision.
                      See you tomorrow.
            Anya: Ciao!

            Dario: Bye xxx
