Erin I see that there is a meeting in town to discuss the proposed wind farm.
John Yes. A lot of people are worried about it, 1 they are holding the meeting to provide some answers.
Erin Why are they so worried? I thought people would support it 2 it provides a source of clean, local
                        energy.
John Well, some are worried 3 they think it’ll create noise.
Erin Noise? That’s silly! We have huge lorries passing through the village 4 people are worried about
the noise of a few wind turbines!
John I agree. And the noise won’t be heard 5 the turbines must be built away from any houses. People
are also concerned that the turbines will destroy the view.
Erin A lot of people dislike the appearance of wind turbines, 6 I like them. Personally, when I see wind
turbines, I feel happy that we’re utilising a renewable resource to create local power.
John I think people are worried that 7 we allow one wind farm to be built, new wind farms will pop up
all over the place. Also, wind turbines don’t create much power 8 it’s really windy, 9 the
proposed site isn’t actually very exposed.
Erin Well, I still don’t like how people aren’t supporting this proposal. They are happy to support projects
10 they are built somewhere else, 11 no-one supports them in their own neighbourhood.
                        They are all nimbies!
                 John Nimbies?
Erin Yes, N I M B Y. It stands for “Not in my back yard!”
