1 Being Sociable
E. Read the text below and answer the questions.
A lot of young girls from all over the world go to England
as a baby-sitter. They stay with a family and look after
their children. Of course, they do the washing up,
ironing, and cleaning at home. They earn some money
and improve their English.
Martine, who is from Nice, wants to go to a university in
France and wants to be an English teacher. She is now
living in Brighton with the Taylors. Martine says, “I am
staying with a family here and looking after their two
children. I also do cleaning and cooking. I don’t earn
much money, but I am very happy to be here as a
baby-sitter because I speak English all the time. I go to
a language school near my house three times a week.
I like my job here because I am learning a lot about
England and the English people. At the weekends,
I visit different places in London such as Hyde Park, Big
Ben, and Greenwich.
Mr and Mrs Taylor are really polite and helpful people.
They do their best to improve my English. Their sons
Mark and Philip are cute children. I love them very
much, and I am sure I am going to miss them a lot.
