Lesson 3

Speech Recognition Software

1. Open the Speech Recognition app.

2. Click on the option ‘Open the Speech Reference Card’.

3. Try one of the speech commands in the list and see what happens.

NOTE

• From the options in the Speech Recognition app, choose ‘Train your computer

to better understand you’ if your voice commands are not understood by the
computer.

• The more you practise, the easier it is for the computer to understand you.
• Make sure there is no noise in the room and that you are speaking near
the microphone.

Lesson 4

Using Speech Recognition

Open the Speech Recognition app. Make sure your microphone is connected. Now, follow
the instructions below.

1. ‘Open Microsoft Word’.

2. Now, dictate the following:

‘Once upon a time, there was a little girl named
Goldilocks. She went for a stroll in the forest.
Pretty soon, she came upon a house. She knocked
and when no one answered, she walked right in.’

3. Proofread your text.

4. Save the file as ‘Goldilocks.docx’ and exit.
