My New Business
Imagine you’re starting your own business. You’re going to create a spreadsheet that will
calculate your profit. You will also use a logical statement that will display a message if you
reach your financial goal.
1. Open a new spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel.
2. In one column, add the various expenses your business will have. If there are
many expenses, add a ‘Sum’ formula to do the maths for you.
3. In the second column, add the income you expect to have.
4. Add a formula that subtracts the two (‘Expenses’ value – ‘Income’ value).
5. Now, in another cell, add a logical statement. The statement should display a message,
congratulating you if the value of the previous formula is true (in this case, a profit that
you would like to have). If it is false, it should display a message for you to try harder.
6. Add a table to the cells for a better appearance.
7. When you’re done, save the spreadsheet as ‘My Business.xlsx’ and exit.
Did you follow all the steps? Check the ones you did.
Oh yeah! It’s doing
great now!
Reach for the Stars! Business is
going well!
Did you know that for the past 30
years, more than 80% of businesses
around the world have been using
Microsoft Excel to calculate their
profits? Spreadsheets help us keep
our data sorted, do calculations, and
present values with graphs.
