Writing Time




              Complex sentences: These are sentences containing an
              independent clause and at least one subordinate clause.




                Use a comma between the subordinate clause and the main clause
                if the subordinate clause comes first.


                 Examples:
                        Because the students don’t like maths problems, the teacher

                        helped them to solve the equations with a game.
                        Although Mike was sick and tired, he went to school.
                 Try it:







                Use two commas to set off a non-essential subordinate clause.

                 Examples:

                        Our neighbour, who has two kids, is very kind.
                        My motorcycle, which is brand new, broke last night.
                 Try it:







                Don’t use any punctuation marks between the main and the
                subordinate clauses if the main clause comes first.


                 Examples:
                        I hate waking up early in the morning because I always
                        sleep late.
                        She practises every day so that she can get a medal.
