Constantin’s Family
When the war came, everything changed for Constantin’s family.
They had to move away as soon as they could. Even though
Constantin’s family was German and had no problem with the
army, they couldn’t confide in anyone and didn’t feel safe at all,
because their town was always hit. Eventually, the town’s school
was destroyed, and the family realised that the children wouldn’t
be able to return until the war was over. Constantin tried to
convince his family that they should move. He didn’t just want to
leave Germany; he wanted to get out of Europe, too – not just for
himself, but also for his sister, whose wellbeing was very important
to him. But it was really hard for the family to leave.
Eventually, there was a major fight and a lot of
shooting in a town near theirs. After that, a lot of
people thronged to the neighbouring country, and
so the family finally decided to do the same.
