The functions of the organs of the respiratory system

Nose: It is the organ through

which air is inhaled into the human

               body.

               Pharynx: The air travels down

through the pharynx to reach the

               voice box called the larynx.

Trachea: A strong tube that the

air passes through in order to

               reach the two lungs.

Bronchi: Two strong tubes that branch off the trachea. Each goes

               to one of the lungs.

Lungs: The lungs are sponge-like organs. When we inhale, the

muscle under our lungs called the diaphragm moves down. This

makes our chest bigger and lets air in to fill our lungs. When the

diaphragm pushes up, it pushes the air out of the lungs so we exhale.
