Dear Parents,
As part of our social studies program, your child has been learning about
world locations and the grid system. Your child learned ways that he or
she can identify absolute and relative locations using maps and globes.
You can help your child by supporting our classroom learning.
Here are some things you can do to reinforce the message of this lesson
and our related learning activities.
• Ask your child to tell you about the lesson and what he or she
learned from it.
• Use the internet to review with your child the grid system and the
difference between absolute and relative locations.
• Use the world map and practice with your child to locate different
countries using the grid system.
• Use your mobile GPS system to identify different locations. Talk
about how a GPS works to identify absolute location.
• Watch videos online showing how geographers use the grid
system to identify different locations.
