The Mesopotamian Area in the Past

The Mesopotamian area was the area around the

Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. The area was

controlled and habituated by the Sumerians and

Akkadians, until they were conquered in 539 B.C.E.,

by the Achaemenid Empire, which was later

            conquered by Alexander the Great.

By 150 B.C.E., the area was dominated by the

Parthian Empire and had many wars with the

Romans, and this made it weaker and nally

divided between the Romans and the Sasanian

Empire until the Islamic conquest in 633 A.D.

Even though the Mesopotamian area was lled Remains of culture of Mesopotamia
                                                                         ancient civilization
with wars and battles, it was the source of

knowledge to the world, especially in

            mathematics, astronomy, and agriculture.

The Mesopotamian Area in the Present
                                                                         Mardin Castle, Mardin, Turkey

After all the Islamic conquests and battles of the

area and the partitioning of the Middle East,

Mesopotamia is now around the area of Iraq,

Kuwait, and parts of Turkey and Syria.

The area’s development is now based on tourism,

oil export, and agriculture, and each country in

the area has its own government and army.
