A. Work in pairs and discuss the following questions.
1. How often do you meet new people?

2. How do you feel when you meet new people?
3. Do you know any good ice-breaker questions?

B. Work in pairs. Read the role cards below and make a short conversation for each role. Then swap roles
and do the exercise again.

Student A

It’s your first day at a new school and you are meeting Student B for the first time.
Start the conversation. You should ask and answer questions about your name and how you
are feeling.

Student B

Student A is new in your class and you are meeting him/her for the first time.
Student A will start the conversation. Answer his/her questions. Find out his/her name and how
he/she is feeling.

C. Work with a different partner. Read the role cards below and make another conversation.

Student A

You are the manager of a café. You are going to interview Student B for a Saturday job. You
are about to meet him/her for the first time.
Student B will start the conversation. Find out what his/her name is and how he/she is feeling.

Student B

You are going to a job interview at a café. Student A is the café manager. You are about to
meet him/her for the first time.
Start the conversation. Introduce yourself and answer A’s questions.
