                    Grammar         Gerunds vs infinitives


               Some common verbs which are followed by a           confess/object/look forward  + to object/possessive
               preposition + verb-ing are:                         + verb-ing
                                                                   insist + on + object/possessive  + verb-ing
               begin/close/end/finish/open/start  + by + verb-ing
               insist + on + verb-ing                              Some verbs can be followed by an object + verb-ing
                                                                   or an object + to + infinitive.

               confess/object/look forward  + to + verb-ing        see/watch/hear/notice/overhear/observe/feel +
                                                                   object + verb-ing / to + infinitive
               Some common verbs which are followed by an object
               + preposition + verb-ing are:
               prevent/discourage/deter/stop/keep/prohibit  +      The verb-ing form suggests that you saw/hear part
               object + from + verb-ing                            of an ongoing action, and the to + infinitive form
                                                                   suggests that you saw a completed action from
                                                                   start to finish.
               Some common verbs are followed by an object or
               possessive + verb-ing.
               like/hate/remember/recall/forget/resent + object/
               possessive  + verb-ing
