                 B. Make the text about leech therapy more formal by changing the underlined parts. Change the relative
                   pronouns if necessary.

The purpose of this information sheet is to answer some of the questions you may have about leech therapy.
If you have any further questions, please speak to the nurse or doctor who you have been assigned to.
                     1 .

In nature, leeches attach themselves to animals and suck out their blood as food. In medicine, leeches may
be used to improve blood flow in skin or tissue that blood circulation is poor in. 2 .

Leeches remove blood clots and restart blood flow, which prevents tissues from dying.
The leech releases three useful substances into the area that it is attached to. 3 .
It releases a local anaesthetic which reduces pain, a vasodilator, which improves blood supply, and other
substances which prevent blood clots from forming.

On the day of the treatment, a nurse will clean the site and carefully put a leech in place. Usually,
one leech is put in place, feeds and is unattached, and after that, another leech is placed there.
4 . If there is difficulty getting the leech to attach, they may apply a dressing,
and the leech will stay in place under that. 5 .

The nurse will clean away any excess blood and check the site; the colour of the skin should be a healthy
pink. It may take 3–5 days for blood circulation to improve, so the number of days patients receive treatment
                     on varies. 6 .
