Let’s Learn

            Civilizations

Around 9,500 years ago, groups of native people in Mexico

and South America learned how to farm. A native is a

person who was born in the same place where they live.

This group of natives settled in one area. They did not live

as nomads. A nomad is a person who moves from place to

place in search of food. Instead, these people stayed in one

place to plant seeds and harvest crops. Thus, a community

and civilization began to develop in the Americas.

Civilization is the development of culture in a society by

formulating government, laws, languages, and social

            classes.
