Oceans of the World




            About two-thirds of the Earth is covered by water.

            Oceans are the largest bodies, or areas, of water on the Earth.

            There are  ve oceans: the Paci c Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Arctic

            Ocean, and the Southern Ocean.

            • The Paci c Ocean is the largest ocean, covering around one-third of the Earth. It


              separates Asia and Australia from North and South America.

            • The Atlantic Ocean is the world’s second largest ocean. It separates Europe and Africa

              from North and South America.

            • The Indian Ocean is the third largest ocean in the world. It lies south of Asia and India and

              separates East Africa from Australia.

            • The Southern Ocean is the second smallest ocean. It sits at the South Pole and the

              southern part of the Earth.


            • The Arctic Ocean is in the northern part of the Earth, around the North Pole. It is the

              smallest ocean.
