The ancient Greeks were the  rst in history to form the city-states, where cities

            and their surrounding areas were considered independent, making their own laws and

            decisions and being ruled by elected leaders.

                    Sparta and Athens were the two main city-states in ancient Greece, and they were

            not really on good terms. They had many wars with each other. But when Persians tried

            to dominate the area, both of the city-states stood together to face this threat.
