What Is a Government?
A government is a person or a group of people who have
the power to rule over other people within a speci c area
of land according to the law. A government may rule over
a community, a village or city, a country like Egypt, or
even a continent like Australia.
Every country in the world has a form of government that
has the power to rule with laws and orders. Other
governments rule smaller areas, such as cities or villages,
to operate under the main government.
Why Do We Need a Government?
• Governments make laws and regulations and punish
illegal actions to make sure that people are following
the laws.
• Governments print money and ensure people’s
welfare.
• Governments have diplomats who have the power
and authority to communicate with other
governments around the world to solve international
problems or to achieve business development.
• Governments usually have a military, or armed
forces, to protect the country.
