             What Is a Government?

A government is a person or a group of people who have

the power to rule over other people within a speci c area

of land according to the law. A government may rule over

a community, a village or city, a country like Egypt, or

            even a continent like Australia.

Every country in the world has a form of government that

has the power to rule with laws and orders. Other

governments rule smaller areas, such as cities or villages,

to operate under the main government.

Why Do We Need a Government?

            • Governments make laws and regulations and punish

illegal actions to make sure that people are following

               the laws.

            • Governments print money and ensure people’s

               welfare.

            • Governments have diplomats who have the power

and authority to communicate with other

governments around the world to solve international

problems or to achieve business development.

            • Governments usually have a military, or armed

               forces, to protect the country.
