             Governments in Ancient History

In ancient history, governments did not exist

and citizens did not have certain rules and

regulations to follow. People lived in non-state

societies mostly as nomads and in tribes on

            di erent lands.

However, throughout time, early forms of

government started to appear in a number of

civilizations, such as ancient Egypt, ancient

China, ancient Greece, and ancient Rome.

            Bureaucratic and systematic governments

began to appear in the Middle Ages.

             Governments Today

Nowadays, di erent types of government exist. Each

type has its own system and way of applying rules

and controlling citizens living in a country.

Governments now, unlike ancient times, control the

army, apply laws, legislate new laws, and collect taxes.

Borders are also under government controls, and to

get in or out of any border, people should have

papers, passports, or identi cation cards to authorize

            the entry.
