Managing Your Files
Lesson
Lesson
Copying a file.
Sometimes we want to make a copy of a file and place it in another folder, on the
desktop, or on a storage device.
1 Select the picture ‘Ball.jpg’ in the ‘Pictures’ folder you created.
2 Press Ctrl+C to copy it.
3 Press Ctrl+V to paste a copy of the file in the folder you want.
Searching for a file.
When we can’t find a file, we can use the search
option to find it: Ctrl+F=find/search. We will search
for the file ‘bunny.jpg’.
1 Open ‘File Explorer’ and select ‘This PC’.
Press Ctrl+F.
2 In the search box, start typing the name of
the file. In the results below, you will see the
file you were looking for.
3 Now, move the file to the ‘Pictures’ folder you
created in the ‘Documents’ folder.
Fun Time!
You can also use the ‘cut’, ‘copy’, and ‘paste’ commands in many programmes and apps.
1 Open the file ‘Notes.docx’.
2 Can you rearrange the sentences so that they are in the correct order?
Use the commands you just learned and also use the ‘Enter’ key if you
need to change lines.
Challenge Yourself!
You could also use the search command to find folders! Open ‘File Explorer’ and search
for this folder: ‘Secret Treasure’. Is there a file inside? Open it to find out what it is!
