The Arab League
• When it was founded in 1945, the
organization known as the Arab
League, or a group of countries,
consisted of six countries: Egypt, Iraq,
Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and Saudi
Arabia. Other countries joined the
Arab League later, including Jordan,
United Arab Emirates, Morocco, and
Bahrain. It now has twenty-two
members.
• The main goal of the Arab League was
de ned as serving the common good Flag of the Arab League
of all Arab countries, ensuring better
conditions for Arab countries, and supporting the hopes and expectations for a positive future. It
supports the economic, cultural, national, and religious interests of its members. Just as the United
Nations is a gathering of nations for discussion and action, the Arab League plays an important role
for the region it serves.
• The Arab League helps the Arab world to grow economically and culturally. It resolves, through
discussions and activities, many problems within the League itself and with outside nations as well.
• The Arab League has many modern activities such as encouraging and supporting young talent, or
natural skills, and developing and improving children’s welfare, or health and care. The Arab League
also works on important issues such as women’s equality, access to education, and more.
• The Arab League di ers from other organizations such as the European Union because its focus is to
help the member countries cooperate on political issues rather than be involved with the citizens of
each country.
• The Charter of the Arab League forbids member states from resorting to force against each other.
Arab League members work together rather than against each other.
