            Intergovernmental versus Nongovernmental Organizations

            Intergovernmental Organizations

            Intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) are

            established and controlled by governments.

They di er in their criteria and types depending

on the purpose and function of the

            organization. Some organizations are

established to resolve problems or debates

between countries. Others are established to

form a certain treaty between countries for

            mutual bene t.

For example, the United Nations is an United Nations headquarters in New York City, USA

            intergovernmental organization which looks

after the peace and the security of the world.

            Nongovernmental Organizations

            Nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) do not

fall under governmental control. They do not

aim for pro t, and they care about humanitarian

            problems.

            Nongovernmental organizations’ main targets

are mostly education, health care, public policy,

social reform, human rights, and environment
