French Colonies in the Past versus Today
French Colonies in the Past
The French and the British were colonial
th
rivals, as by the 19 and the 20 century,
th
both of them had colonized most of the
world.
The French colonial empire spread over
12,898,000 km between the 1920s and
2
1930s. The French colonies were all over
the world: North America, South America,
Africa, Asia, Oceania, and Antarctica. France
held entirely or partly about 100 colonies.
French Colonies Today
After holding hundreds of colonies around
the world, the British and the French had
con icts that led to the destruction of most
of their colonies, which helped in ending
this huge colonial era.
However, France did not lose all its
colonies; it still has a number of colonies
around the world, whose people are
considered French and have the right to
vote for both the parliament and the
president, such as French Guiana, French
French military uniforms
Polynesia, Guadeloupe, and Réunion.
