Sum Formula

                                                                                                            Lesson
                                                                                                            Lesson

Click on the ‘AutoSum’ button. The
                          spreadsheet automatically recognises the
cells which will be added. The ‘Formula Bar’
                          displays the function =SUM(C4:C15) which
means: add all cells from ‘C4’ to ‘C15’.

                      4
Press the ‘Enter’ key to add the function.

                                                                           5
                                                The total value is
                                                displayed in cell ‘C16’.

              Fun Time!

What would happen if we changed the values of the cells? Add your own values and see
what happens. Does the ‘Sum’ function still work?

              Challenge Yourself!

The ‘Sum’ function is one of many that are available for use in a spreadsheet. Click on
the ‘down arrow’ next to the ∑ ‘AutoSum’ button to open the ‘functions list’. There, you’ll
find even more functions. Can you guess what each one does?
