How much free space do we have?
If you want to see how much free space is left in a drive, ‘File Explorer’ uses bars under the
name of each device. A blue bar means you still have space. However, a red bar means you’re
running out of it.
You can also check the exact space you have which is shown under the bar of each device.
Check your connected devices for how much space you have. What colour bars do you see?
Challenge Yourself!
Removable devices.
Some storage devices cannot be removed while your computer 1
is powered on. Devices such as a hard disk drive can be removed
only by someone who is experienced in handling computer parts,
and this must only be done when the computer is turned off.
Other devices can be removed easily, such as USB Flash Drives or
SD Cards. However, in order to remove these devices, you must first 2
deactivate them so as not to risk damaging the storage device.
Disconnecting a removable device.
1 Click on the USB icon in the lower right of the taskbar to go
to the ‘Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media’ menu. 3
2 Select the device you wish to remove.
3 Your operating system informs you it is safe to unplug the
device.
