How Does the Geographic Grid Help Us Locate Places?
• We use lines of latitude and longitude to help us nd places on a map or globe.
• Latitude lines run from east to west. They are parallel to each other.
• Longitude lines run from north to south. Longitude lines come together at the poles.
• The Equator is the zero line of latitude. The Prime Meridian is the zero line of longitude.
The Equator and the Prime Meridian are lines passing through the middle of the Earth.
• All points on our planet can be found with this geographic grid on latitude and
longitude coordinates, or numbers. The coordinates for latitude and longitude help us
know exactly where we are on Earth.
