Let’s Observe

             Renewable Resources

            Hydroelectric power

Water ows and streams are used to move

            turbines that generate electricity.

Hydroelectric power has made it easier and

cheaper for a lot of industries and factories to

            manufacture their products.

Hydroelectric power is estimated to give

about 20% of the world’s energy

requirements. China is the biggest producer

of hydroelectric power in the world.

Englebright Dam on the Yuba River,
             Nonrenewable Resources
                                                                    Nevada, USA

            Burning coal

Coal is one of the main natural resources

needed for power. It is extracted and burnt to

produce carbon to be used for energy.

Coal takes thousands of years to be

extractable, which makes it a nonrenewable

source of energy because its extraction

cannot keep up with its consumption.

China is also the largest coal-dependent

country in the world as it uses coal for

approximately 70% of its whole power needs.

                                                                   Coals burning
