People and Culture

About 66% of the Greek people live in

large urban cities. Athens is the biggest
city with more than 3.1 million people.

            Climate

The climate in Greece is similar to the

            central Mediterranean area. Summers

are very warm, sunny, and dry. Winters

are mild with average amounts of rain.

In summer, the meltemi seasonal winds
come from the north to cool the dry,

            hot days.
                                                                                               Oia village, Santorini
Even though Greece enjoys many warm

days, the peaks of its mountains are generally covered with ice.

The southern islands are warmer through the whole year. January and February are the coldest months of

the year, while July and August are the warmest months. Tourists like visiting Greece throughout the year

for the good weather and to enjoy the beautiful beaches.
