The United Kingdom

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is one of

the world’s great powers. Great Britain, or Britain, is an island in the

Atlantic Ocean located in northwestern Europe and separated from

the rest of the European continent by the English Channel and the

North Sea. This island is the largest of the British Isles and the ninth

largest island in the world. The second largest of the British Isles is

Ireland, which is home to the Republic of Ireland in the south and

Northern Ireland in the north.
