Britain's Invaders
The Saxons
Settling in Saxonia, present day Germany,
the Saxons formed something like what
we call today a tribe of people from
di erent backgrounds and cultures who
did not have an actual homeland.
The Saxons invaded a part of Britain in
410 after the collapse of the Roman
Empire, under the excuse of helping and
protecting Celtic people who lived in the
area.

The Vikings, who were known as
aggressive invaders and travelers, existed
in Britain during the period of 793–1066.
The Vikings invaded di erent countries
and areas searching for farmlands and
trade due to their increasing population
and lack of resources.
The Vikings’ language, a North Germanic
language called Norse, is one of the
languages that had an e ect on shaping
the English language.
