The United Kingdom in the Past versus Today

The United Kingdom in the Past

The kingdom started by the political union of two countries, England and Scotland, to form Great

Britain. Approximately, a hundred years later, in 1801, Ireland was added to the union to be called the

United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.

Until the union of Great Britain and Ireland, England, Scotland, and Ireland had di erent laws and

parliaments, but later these parliaments were abolished and a parliament of the United Kingdom was

            put into act.

            The United Kingdom Today

The United Kingdom today consists of the island of Great Britain and the northeastern part of Ireland,

which is ruled under a unitary parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy.

The United Kingdom with its four countries, England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, is

considered a developed country holding the fth-largest economy in the world.
