            Examples of Asia's Landforms and Water Bodies


            The Karakum Desert
                                                              The Karakum Desert in Turkmenistan
            Located in Central Asia, the Karakum

            Desert is known for its dark sands, hence

            its name which means black sand, and it


            rarely gets rain.

            The Karakum Desert is about 70% of the

            country of Turkmenistan, and it is

            bordered by the Caspian Sea, the Aral Sea,

            the Amu Darya River, and the Kyzylkum

            Desert.

            The Karakum Desert has a crater of natural


            gas that has been burning since 1971,

            called Darvaza gas crater, or the Door to

            Hell.

            The Caspian Sea

            Because of its huge area, the Caspian Sea

            is the largest lake in Asia as it is

            surrounded by land from all directions.

            The Caspian’s area is about 371,000 km ,

            and it has a volume of 78,200 km  of

            water. It is a source of minerals as well as

            oil and gas for the surrounding region.
