• The British control ended in 1946, and Jordan gained its

              independence. Jordan was declared as a kingdom for the  rst

              time under the rule of King Abdullah, who ruled until his

              assassination, or murder, in 1951. His son, Hussein, became king.

            • By the late 1960s and early 1970s, many tensions, or unrest and

              imbalance, arose in the area until peace treaties were signed in

              1991. After the peace treaties were in place, the United States


              began to support Jordan and declared it a free trade zone.

            • King Hussein died in 1999. His son became King Abdullah II and               King Abdullah I

              led the royal family of Jordan with his wife, Queen Rania. King

              Abdullah II developed the Kingdom of Jordan and achieved

              many economic reforms, or repairs. Under his rule, Jordan

              participates in many economic associations, or a group of

              people or countries coming together for common purposes.
